At the beginning of the year, I have often heard people say “New Year, New Me”. Does it mean you miraculously change at midnight? Does that mean you are forgetting the old and becoming new? I don’t know, but it sounds like a trendy catch phrase. Personally, I have grown tired of all of the slogans and catch phrases because they appeal to the emotions. A lot of people who are promising to change their diets, exercise, save money, and be a better person on December 31st will revert back to their old ways by January 31st.
Since God has allowed me to see a new year, I want to reflect on lessons I learned in 2022. I do know 2022 was a year of ups and downs. It was filled with highs, lows, twists, and turns. It was a year of resilience, transition, growth and learning. Resilience allowed me to cope with adversity and come out on the other side a little wiser. I used to call people before I called on God. I transitioned from being co-dependent upon people and dependent upon God. I’ve grown into a woman who has conquered her fears (1Timothy 1:7).
I have learned to seek peace and pursue it (Psalm 34:14). I took a risk by leaving a demanding job for one with less stress and money. How will I survive? Honestly, my house has not lacked anything (Psalm 23:1). It was at that moment I realized God is my source and jobs are simply a resource. God supplies my needs and He allows me to have some of the things I want (Philippians 4:19). When I say Jesus take the wheel, I have learned to let Him drive.
The lessons I learned in 2022 will lead me into 2023 and beyond. I’ve accepted the fact that death and pain are a part of life. Life is a gift even when pain is the teacher. Life is not a sprint it’s a marathon. It’s okay to create and maintain boundaries. It’s okay to say NO. It’s okay to disconnect by unplugging your phone, and not answering every call or text. Forgive others, laugh often, provide acts of service, stop complaining and the big one…….an attitude of gratitude goes a long way. I’m excited about 2023. I’m excited about the things God has done and will continue to do. Be encouraged! God is yet faithful!
