God in his infinite wisdom created man from dirt. The same God took a rib from man and created woman. “Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man” (Genesis 2:22). God’s wisdom is unmatched. God created man but choose woman to give birth to all mankind. “Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living” (Genesis 3:20). How amazing is this? Eve was the first woman, first wife and first mother. Although society can be harsh towards women, God’s love is indescribable towards his daughters.
God’s love for us is unconditional and so is a mother’s love towards her children. I believe God chose women to be mothers because we are naturally nurturing, loving and caring. Being a woman and a mother is so special. Even women who do not have children can be motherly. A good mother has a sacrificial spirit because there is nothing she will not do for her children. A mother wears many hats. She is a comforter, protector, teacher, comedian, disciplinarian, caregiver, confidante, intercessor, mediator, taskmaster, doctor, referee, taxi driver, cheerleader and hero.
Mothers are the backbone of the family. A mother forgives her children over and over again. A bond between a mother and child is not easily broken. Parental love, especially a mother’s love, gives the children the emotional support and stability that they need in order to be productive as they grow. A mother loves at all times. A mother hopes at all times. A mother’s love is patient and kind. A mother’s love is the closest thing to God’s love we can imagine. A good mother is a window into the heart of God.
This holiday is the perfect time to remember that a mother gives us life, nurtures, encourages, and supports us. As we celebrate this Mother’s Day, let’s say a prayer for those who have lost their mothers. If your mother is not around, spend time with someone who is like a mother to you.
“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.”- Author Unknown
